Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita

Il Padrino discovers his bookkeeper has skimmed his accounts for ten million dollars.

The bookkeeper is deaf--this was the original reason for his getting the job, he would never have to testify in court.

When Il Padrino is ready to depose the bookkeeper, he takes along his lawyer who knows sign language.

Il Padrino asks the bookkeeper: "Where's the money."

The lawyer, using sign language, relays the question to the bookkeeper.

The bookkeeper signs back: "I don't know what you're talking about."

The lawyer tells Il Padrino, "He says he doesn't know what you're talking about."

Il Padrino pulls out a 9mm pistol, places the barrel directly against the bookkeeper's left temple and tells the attorney, "Ask him again."

The lawyer signs to the underling: "He'll kill you for sure if you don't tell him."

The bookkeeper quickly signs back: "OK, you win. The money's in a brown briefcase buried behind the shed in my cousin Enzo's backyard in Queens--"

Il Padrino asks the lawyer: "What'd he say?"

"He says you don't have the guts to pull the trigger."
